I have always believed that geological sciences have a fundamental role: to demonstrate that wealth is not about money, but about opportunity.

Africa holds around 30% of the world’s natural resources, including diamonds, gold, iron, uranium, silver and bauxite. It also accounts for approximately 80% of global coltan production and 60% of cobalt—key elements for modern digital technologies. Beyond that, its energy potential could generate more than twenty times its current consumption, with significant opportunities for clean energy export.

A Changing Definition of Sustainability

Sustainable development today must consider new dynamics that were once marginal. Geopolitical tensions and the concentration of critical raw materials—closely linked to the energy transition—are reshaping the global landscape.

A New Mining Vision

These evolving conditions require a stronger and more strategic approach to sustainability within the mining industry. Extraction can no longer be seen as a purely economic activity. It must become a driver of innovation, responsibility and long-term development.

Beyond Extraction

Mining should open itself to new opportunities—not only economic, but also human. A meaningful commitment to sustainability allows individuals and communities to grow, transforming resource extraction into a process of shared development.
